A Riverside native, Austin studied conducting at the University of Redlands where he conducted the university’s orchestra, symphonic band, and annual Feast of Lights. Austin has also worked as a conductor and music director for small student-run productions of the musicals Little Women and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

As a student, Austin developed a passion for performing new music and has worked frequently with contemporary composers to perform and record their works.
